Why Helsinki

Helsinki's own maritime-cluster strategy names the Blue Economy Studio as the route through which growth companies find partners, funders and pilot opportunities in the city — not a generic accelerator slot. A'Pelago's Studio 2027 cohort is Mervare's current high-priority route into that conversation. Helsinki already has real digital maritime services — the city's own Ahti discovery platform and established Finnish marina-management and booking products — so the case for Mervare has to be genuinely different from "another marina booking system," not a repeat of what already exists.

What Mervare already brings today

• Public harbour discovery: mervare.io's country coverage already includes Finland through the OpenStreetMap import, the same pipeline already live for six other Baltic countries — not a new integration.
• A harbour-claim funnel that already generalises across every source in the discovery index — the Estonian and Latvian registers and OpenStreetMap alike — so a real Helsinki-area operator can claim an unmanaged listing into a provisioned Mervare marina.
• A berth request and booking flow with harbour-master confirmation (pending → confirmed), once a harbour is onboarded.
• A check-in / check-out lifecycle recorded against each booking.
• Card payment via Stripe Connect, with the harbour itself as merchant of record, where a harbour has turned it on.
• A general-purpose survey engine already used to collect structured operator and sailor feedback — a pilot's own evidence collection reuses it rather than needing a new mechanism.

This runs today for a small number of Baltic harbours — most of the register, and all of Finland's OpenStreetMap-sourced coverage, is discovery-only until a real operator claims a listing. No Helsinki-area harbour has been claimed or onboarded.

   A Helsinki-area marina is found on mervare.io — Finland is already one of the countries the OpenStreetMap-based discovery layer covers, the same pipeline already live for Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Poland, Germany and Denmark.

   The harbour's real operator claims their own, otherwise-unmanaged listing — the claim funnel already generalises across every source in the discovery index, OpenStreetMap included, not just the Estonian register.

   Berth request / booking

   Once onboarded, a request or online booking replaces the phone call and the VHF hail — where the harbour publishes bookable berths.

   Arrival / check-in

   The harbour master confirms arrival against the booking record, not a page in a logbook.

   Card payment via Stripe Connect, with the harbour as merchant of record, only where that harbour has switched it on.

The smallest Helsinki pilot

No harbour has agreed to take part. The smallest version needs one Helsinki-area guest harbour willing to run the flow above for a season: its listing already exists, or is added to Mervare's Finland coverage the same way any OpenStreetMap-sourced harbour is; the operator claims it; onboarding turns on requests, booking and check-in for that one harbour; payment only if the operator wants it switched on. Everything past the claim step reuses features already running for Baltic harbours today — a Helsinki pilot adds one harbour to an existing system rather than building a new one.

What the pilot would measure

• Operator time saved per booking or request, against phone/paper handling
• Share of berth requests or bookings completed digitally
• Arrival / check-in friction — time and steps from arrival to a confirmed check-in
• Discovery-to-request conversion rate
• Payment completion rate, only where the harbour has switched online payment on
• Structured feedback from the harbour operator and from visiting boaters

Why not another booking app?

Mervare is not proposing to replace Ahti or an established Finnish marina-management product, and this brief makes no claim about what either does or doesn't do well. Its distinct angle is cross-border: a boat sailing between Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Sweden today meets a different, siloed system in each country, if any. Mervare already runs one discovery-through-booking layer across several Baltic countries from a single index, so a visiting boat gets the same experience regardless of which country's harbour it lands at. A Helsinki pilot would test whether that cross-border layer adds value alongside — not instead of — whatever a Helsinki harbour already uses, specifically for the foreign-flagged, no-prior-local-account visitor journey that a purely local tool is not built around.

Application fit — Helsinki Blue Economy Studio 2027

• Deadline: Applications close 30 Nov 2026.
• Stage: Early-stage blue-economy growth company — Mervare's own current stage.
• Product readiness: MVP preferred; Mervare already runs a live, not conceptual, discovery/booking/check-in/payment product in production for a small number of Baltic harbours.
• What the Studio offers: Support validating and piloting in Helsinki, plus investor and partner access — the programme itself does not directly invest.

What we still need to validate in Helsinki

• One interview with a real Helsinki-area harbour or operator about their actual problem, not an assumed one.
• One pilot-host signal — a letter of interest or equivalent — from a Helsinki-area harbour. None exists yet.
• Evidence, not assertion, that Mervare's cross-border/interoperability value is actually distinct from what a Helsinki-area harbour already gets from Ahti or an existing Finnish marina tool.
